Voice Control for Claude
Superwhisper turns your voice into text and drops it into any app: terminal, browser, messenger. Install it once, press one key, dictate the task. Claude Code takes it from there.
Why bother
Typing is slow. Talking is 3× faster.
Average typing speed is 40-60 words per minute. Speech runs at 130-150 words per minute. When the task is complex and you need to explain context, voice wins by a factor of 3.
Superwhisper runs locally: it never sends your voice to the cloud. Recognition happens via Whisper (OpenAI) right on your Mac. Latency is under a second.
How it works
One key. You speak. Done.
01. Press the hotkey Right Option (⌥) by default. Superwhisper starts recording. A small indicator appears on screen.
02. Say the task "Find every bug in this file and explain each one." "Write an Instagram hook about Claude Code." Plain language, like you're talking to a friend.
03. Release the key Superwhisper transcribes your voice in 0.5-1 second and pastes the text into the active field: terminal, browser, Telegram.
04. Claude takes over From here it's Claude's job. You're already dictating the next task, or grabbing a coffee.

1. Download Superwhisper Go to superwhisper.com → Download. Mac only. There's a free plan: 30 transcriptions a day. The paid plan is $9/month, unlimited. superwhisper.com →
2. Grant microphone access macOS will ask for permission on first launch. Click Allow. Superwhisper lives in your menu bar.
3. Pick the model: Whisper Large v3 In settings, choose Whisper Large v3. It's a local model that works without internet. It downloads once (~1.5 GB), then everything runs on your machine.
4. Set up the hotkey Preferences → Hotkey. We recommend Right Option (⌥) or F5. The main thing is that it doesn't clash with your other apps.
5. Open Claude and talk Click into an input field (claude.ai in the browser, or a terminal running Claude Code), press the hotkey, say the task. The text drops in automatically. Hit Enter and Claude gets to work.

Tips
What improves results right away.
- Speak slower than you think: The first few days you'll want to talk fast. Whisper keeps up, but the task comes out better structured when you slow down a little. Claude's answers get better too.
- Start with a verb: "Find," "Write," "Explain," "Fix." The first word sets Claude's mode. It works more precisely than "I need you to...".
- Add context with a file: Before the voice command, paste in a file path or copy some code. Superwhisper inserts your speech after the cursor, so the context stays in one place.
- Use it for longer tasks: For a single word, just type. For anything 3+ sentences long, speak. The time savings show up precisely on complex requests.
